ncukThe NCUK International Foundation Year (IFY)

Most foundation programmes offer you very limited choices, often to just one university. NCUK’s International Foundation Year (NCUK IFY) gives you the choice of access to a wide range of both universities and courses worldwide.

The NCUK IFY is a modular programme that will prepare you for first-year entry to undergraduate degree courses. You will have a choice of streams in Business, Engineering, Humanities and Science and you will study a combination of modules that fit in with your degree destination.

HOW CAN I GET DIRECT ENTRY TO A UK UNIVERSITY?

Undertake the Brookhouse NCUK one-year International Foundation Course.

Success on this International Foundation Year guarantees you direct entry to one of 11 prestigious British universities. This intensive programme bridges the gap between local high school qualifications (such as the KCSE in Kenya) and university in the UK.  It is also an excellent pathway to university for those who wish to improve their British curriculum A-level results.

WHAT DOES THAT INVOLVE?

Choose three modules from a range on offer along with Key Skills in Communication and ICT to get you ready for independent learning at university. These exciting and enjoyable modules will prepare you to go on to do engineering or law, business or science degrees in the UK.  Teaching methods match those experienced at university, and your work will be continually assessed throughout the course.  Final examinations take place in July.

WHAT DO I GAIN?

A qualification of quality assured by the Northern Consortium of UK Universities, examined by them and taught by experienced and motivating Brookhouse teachers.  You pay local fees for the year and avoid the additional costs of living in the UK.

ARE FOUNDATION YEAR STUDENTS AT A DISADVANTAGE?

No, they are definitely not. The NCUK is proud of the way the Foundation Year prepares you for higher study.  The Foundation Year has been offered in Kenya and in other countries worldwide for over 10 years.  During this time some 8,000 students have benefited from NCUK Pre-University programmes. Moreover NCUK Foundation Year students have been shown to perform above the average of all international students in NCUK partner universities.

HERE IS WHAT FORMER STUDENTS THINK......

idris

"Participating in the IFY programme was a great opportunity for me to develop the skills and knowledge needed to gain admission to one of the world’s most prestigious universities.  Not only did it expose me to independent learning, I was surrounded by excellent teachers, whose respective methods of teaching do not differ from the ones I find at the university" Idris Ajia, Engineering

"The best thing I liked about the IFY programme was the good student to teacher ratio, which improved my understanding, due to the concentrated efforts of the teachers.  The IFY programme makes it very easy to adapt to studying in the UK."
