ROUND SQUARE

The Pursuit Of Academic Excellence

Round Square is a world-wide association of schools on five continents sharing unique and ambitious goals. Students attending Round Square schools make a strong commitment, beyond academic excellence, to personal development and responsibility. This is achieved by participating in service learning projects, exchange programmes and adventure activities.

VISIT ROUND SQUARE: www.roundsquare.org

Brookhouse is a member of the Round Square network of schools. This means we are able to participate in student exchanges with other Round Square schools around the globe, attend Round Square conferences in different parts of the world, and participate in Round Square International Service (RSIS) projects.

Round Square schools are founded on the philosophy of educator Kurt Hahn, which embraces six pillars, summed up by the word IDEALS. They are:

INTERNATIONALISM
DEMOCRACY
ENVIRONMENT
ADVENTURE
LEADERSHIP
SERVICE

ROUND SQUARE CITIZENSHIP AWARD

Integrating the Round Square IDEALS into teaching and learning is done through the Discovery Framework and the Citizenship Award at Brookhouse.

The Award involves the development of servant leadership skills, service learning engagement, commitment to the processes of internationalism and democracy, undertaking adventurous challenges and environmental stewardship.

The Citizenship Award aims to:

  • Highlight and strengthen ‘soft skills’ for learners that are transferable and specifically beneficial to curricular learning. These are described in the Discovery Framework.
  • Cultivate various aspects of intelligence, including the emotional, social and cultural, along with self-esteem and resilience.
  • Encourage reflection in our students as a life-long habit.
  • Develop specific interests, talents and abilities in each of our students

CIS & IAPS

About These Organisations

What Are These Organisations?

The Council of International Schools or CIS is an association of international schools from all over the world. It bases accreditation on the school achieving the highest standards and structures to deliver a world class international education for its pupils.

IAPS or the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools is a UK-based organisation designed to ensure that a quality learning environment is maintained at the preparatory school level.

Why Did Brookhouse Seek Such Accreditation?

Any school can tell its parents and community that it is impressive. What we want at Brookhouse is for external and independent agencies to come into the school regularly to inspect us and tell us what they think. We want an ongoing and objective analysis of how effective we are at providing quality educational opportunities for the young people under our care.

Characteristics of
an Accredited School are:

ITS MISSION
ACCEPTING OF

STUDENT-ORIENTATED

THE FUTURE

CIS & IAPS

Brookhouse achieved accredited status by:

  • Undergoing Preliminary Visits to determine readiness.
  • Completing rigorous self-studies.
  • Hosting teams of professional evaluators.
  • Meeting the Standards for Accreditation.

Why Choose CIS and IAPS?

Within the education arena, a CIS inspection is regarded as extremely rigorous, looking at each area of school life. IAPS inspection provides a focused opportunity for the preparatory section of the school to undergo a rigorous self-study, followed by an accreditation visit.

What did these reports say specifically were
the strengths of Brookhouse?

  • The friendly, student-centered atmosphere.
  • The pervasive evidence of the school striving for excellence.
  • The teachers' commitment and loyalty to the students.
  • The management’s vision in developing the school so successfully.
  • The attractive, spacious, safe, secure and clean school environment.
  • The school’s pastoral systems and extra-curricular programme.

Accreditation Has Value

The fact that Brookhouse is accredited by both CIS and IAPS provides parents with a number of assurances. Parents know that the school has undergone rigorous self-assessment, has been evaluated by a team of experienced professionals, meets high academic and professional standards, and is subject to regular visits and monitoring by external agencies.
